Whether you’re setting up a home office for the first time, or looking to improve the office space you have, this blog post is for you! I’ll share my top 10 home office essentials which include home office accessories, furniture, and technology from Amazon!

This post is all about home office essentials!

Must-Have Home Office Essentials 2021

1. Desk

Home Office Desk

Of course, an important place to start with your home office is a desk. Even if you don’t have a separate room that you can dedicate to a home office, I highly recommend creating an office “nook” in your bedroom, living room, etc. Having a dedicated workspace and working from a desk (rather than your kitchen table) will help you feel like your work is a bit more separate from your home life. This desk is sleek, simple and won’t break the bank. It also comes in many different colours including black, maple, espresso, and grey!

2. Office Chair

Office Chair

Next, your home office should have a good quality office chair. I don’t recommend that you use a dining chair, barstool, or any other chair you have laying around your house. A proper office chair is much more suited to ensure you have good posture and reduce back pain! The chair I linked has great reviews, along with some awesome features like adjustable height and rotating armrests! As well, there’s multiple colour options available for this product.

3. Monitor

Monitor

Next, I highly recommend a monitor! My monitor is absolutely essential to my productivity when working from home. My monitor allows me to avoid flipping back and forth between tabs when I’m doing research, writing emails, reviewing documents, etc. I swear, once you get a monitor as a second screen you’ll never be able to go back to just having a laptop screen! This monitor has 3 size options, so you can pick one that meets your needs and space.

4. Laptop Stand

Adjustable Laptop Stand

For years I worked without a laptop stand, not knowing how bad that was for my neck! When I started working at my last job, the Occupational Health Nurse told me my computer should be at eye level, and I should not be looking down at all. So, make sure to get a laptop stand that raises your laptop to eye level instead of craning your neck down to look at your screen.

5. Wireless Keyboard and Mouse

Wireless Keyboard and Mouse

Laptop keyboards and trackpads are also not ergonomic-friendly! So, when you raise up your laptop with a laptop stand, I recommend you get an external keyboard and mouse as well. I much prefer wireless products, to avoid having a bunch of jumbled cords taking over my desk.

6. Power Strip

Multi-Outlet Power Strip

I always have so many things plugged in around my desk – lamps, computer chargers, monitor cords, etc. A power strip is a must to provide surge protection, but also to allow you to have multiple spots to plug in your electronics. I like this power strip because it also comes with USB plug-ins, and the plug lays flat against the wall so it takes up less space.

7. Noise Cancelling Headphones

Apple Airpods Pro

If you have anyone else (boyfriend, girlfriend, children) at home with you when you’re trying to work, then you know how distracting it can be! Noise cancelling headphones were hands down one of the best purchases I made when I started working from home. Noise cancelling headphones allow me to tune out distractions, and focus on my work. It also allows me to take calls without the whole household listening in.

8. Desk Lamp

Desk Lamp

My desk/office is currently in a den without a lot of natural light, so a lamp is essential to brighten up my space! This lamp is a great option if your natural lighting varies throughout the day, because it has multiple different lighting modes and brightness levels! It’s also really easy to adjust, so you can even move it around to get the perfect lighting for a Zoom meeting.

9. Storage Cart

Rolling Utility Cart

A storage cart is a great option if you don’t have a lot of drawer space or built-in storage in your home office. You can use your storage cart to keep computer accessories, books pens or pencils, or anything else you need on-hand.

10. Desk Organizers

Working from a cluttered desk can be incredibly distracting. To avoid pileup and clutter on your desk, consider using desk organizers like this gold wire set! These desk organizers include multiple different options to organize your paperwork, pens, and pencils. It’s simple but also functional storage for your home office.
