How to Make a Homemade Birthday Card
1. Gather Your Materials
First, you’ll need get all your materials together. To make this card, you’ll need:
- Blank cards
- Washi tape
- Markers
- Scotch tape
- Scissors
- Happy birthday lettering (google image search “happy birthday calligraphy and print out one you like)
2. Washi Tape Border
Pick out the pattern or colour of washi tape you like, and use it to create a border around the edges of your card! If you don’t want to buy washi tape, you can always draw a border yourself.
3. Trace Lettering
For this step, you’ll really feel like you’re back in elementary school! I wish I had the ability to do calligraphy, but I don’t, so I do the next best thing….tracing!
Tape your card to the calligraphy/lettering you’ve printed, and tape that to a window. The light will help you see the lettering through your card, which you can then trace the outline using your black marker.
4. Fill in Lettering
Now that you have the lettering traced, you can take your card off the window and finish colouring in your lettering. For this step, I usually switch to a thicker black marker to make it faster!
That’s it! Enjoy your card!
Just like that…you’re done! Now you can send your homemade card off to your friend or family member to enjoy. The great thing about this technique is you can apply it to of other types of cards too like anniversaries, holidays, etc. You’ll never have to buy an overpriced card from the store again!
