7 Postpartum Gift Basket Ideas For New Moms
Spoil a new mom in your life with these thoughtful postpartum gift basket ideas!
If someone you love has recently had a baby, you might be wondering what you can do to support her during those early days. One of the most thoughtful ways to show you care is with a curated postpartum gift basket packed with practical and comforting goodies. Of course, you can always buy a pre-assembled gift basket, but a DIY gift basket adds an extra touch of thoughtfulness. In this post, I’m sharing my favourite postpartum gift ideas that you can assemble in a basket to make any new mom feel special and supported.
This post is all about postpartum gift basket ideas.
7 Thoughtful Postpartum Gift Basket Ideas

1. Postpartum Recovery Items
Firstly, and most importantly, the new mom will be recovering so it’s important to get some products to support her recovery. You can purchase the Postpartum Recovery Essentials Kit that has everything packaged together already (including a peri bottle, cooling spray, disposable underwear, pads, hot & cold packs, and cooling pad liners). Or, if you know they need one specific item like Instant Ice Maxi Pads or a Peri Bottle, you can buy just that individual item instead.
2. Snacks
Those early days with a newborn are exhausting, and often moms are too tired or busy to prepare meals. That’s why snacks are a perfect addition to a postpartum gift basket – it’s key for the mom to be well fed! In my postpartum gift basket I put in my sister-in-law’s favourite snacks (Boom Chicka Pop and Goldfish crackers), but of course you can buy whatever her favourite snacks are.
I asked a few of my mom friends for their favourites, and here’s some suggestions:
Try to include snacks that are individually wrapped, easy to grab one-handed, and don’t need refrigeration.
3. Treats
Let’s be honest – after growing and birthing a human, she deserves a treat (or five). Adding a treat to your postpartum gift basket can add a little joy to her day. Again, you can choose the treats based on the new mom’s preferences. Here’s a few great options for treats to include:
- Gummy Candy Variety Pack
- Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Minis
- Awake Chocolate Bites (bonus – these contain caffeine!)
4. Self-Care Products
Self-care can sound daunting when you’re postpartum, but it doesn’t have to be luxurious or time consuming. Include easy-to-use self-care products in her postpartum gift basket that make her feel refreshed and cared for, like:
5. Medication
I’m not a doctor, so this doesn’t qualify as medical advice – but obviously the recovery from birth can be brutal. Over-the-counter medications like Advil and Tylenol are great to have on standby. These basics can make a huge difference in early recovery, and having them on-hand means she wont need to run out to the store.
6. Lip Balm
It might sound small, but lip balm is a postpartum must-have. After giving birth, my sister-in-law mentioned that her lips were so chapped, so I made sure to include lip balm in her postpartum gift basket. I bought her a set of Burt’s Bees Lip Chap, but there’s tons of other options like this Laneige Lip Balm Set (a luxe option) or this e.l.f moisturizing lip balm for a more affordable option. Pop in a few so she can keep one in every room or diaper bag.
7. A Thoughtful Card
Lastly, don’t underestimate the power of a handwritten note. Taking some time to write out a thoughtful card will be so appreciated by a new mom. Let her know how great of a mom she is, and how proud you are of her! I personally like to make my own cards, but scoped out some options for buying cards too:
- Funny New Baby Card (if she has a sense of humour)
- Simple New Baby Card (cute and classic!)
Packaging Gift Basket
Now that you have all your postpartum gift basket essentials, it’s time to package them up! When it comes to wrapping, I love to choose an option that’s multi-functional. This gift basket is a cute woven basket that could be re-purposed in the baby’s nursery as storage or decor! It also comes with a clear gift bag and gift ribbon to add a nice finishing touch. Adding a bit of packing paper will make your gift basket look professionally wrapped!
