7 Best Summer Books To Read | Must-Read Book List
This post is all about best summer books to read!
Whether you’re at the beach, pool, or park, there’s nothing better than diving into a good book in the summer. My favourite types of summer reads include both romance/love stories, and also thrillers/suspense novels. Maybe that’s strange?! I like variety. For beach reads, I think romance novels are perfect. But also, a suspenseful fiction book is SO good. If you’re looking for a list of must-have books to pack on your next vacation, keep reading.
This post is all about my top 7 recommendations for the best summer books to read!
Best Summer Reads 2021
1. The Perfect Couple
When you see a book with a title like The Perfect Couple, you KNOW the couple isn’t actually perfect and will unwind throughout the book..but the question is how? This book tells the story of a fairytale wedding gone so, so wrong. The plot takes place in Nantucket, which just screams summer to me!
2. The Last Mrs. Parrish
I feel like it’s important to add a trigger warning for this book, because it contains graphic descriptions of abuse.
One of the things I liked about The Last Mrs. Parrish is that it was told from the perspective of only 3 characters. Sometimes, when books switch between too many characters I find it hard to keep up with. Liv Constantine writes this book in a way that is so captivating, you can dive into this book and forget about everything else.
3. In The Dark
This book is a great suspense/thriller that will keep you guessing who you can trust throughout the entire novel. Without giving too much away, the plot of the book is that a group of strangers who thought they were going on a luxury vacation, but it turns into a story of survival and betrayal.
4. The Lies that Bind
I’ve read a few of Emily Giffin’s books before, so I decided to pick up this one and give it a go. The Lies That Bind intricately weaves manipulation into a plot that centres around romance. I was drawn into the characters from the very beginning of the book.
5. The Dilemma
The Dilemma tells a story of family secrets unraveling over the course of one day. I love how this book takes place over a 24-hour period – I loved following the timeline and following how much action was packed into such a short time frame. I would consider this book more of a drama than a thriller, but it was fantastic!
6. Malibu Rising
I saw the book Malibu Rising getting lots of hype on social media, so I decided to try it for myself! In my opinion, it lived up to the hype. I did find it a bit of a slower start compared to some of the other books, but it got really captivating. It took me on a roller coaster of emotions. I actually found some similarities between this book and The Dilemma (above), so if you liked that one I would recommend Malibu Rising too.
7. 28 Summers
28 Summers is definitely more of a classic romance novel, if that’s what you’re into. This book wraps up romance and drama into one compelling story. I started and finished this book in the same day, which is always a sign of a book with captivating characters and storylines. This is also the second book on this list written by Elin Hildebrand..she sure knows how to write a good book!!
Money-Saving Tip!
Tip: If you read my post on 10 Things I Stopped Buying to Save Money and Space, you know that I actually don’t buy physical books anymore. I never read the same book more than once, so to me it’s not worth it to buy! Instead, I borrow books from the library. If you don’t want to spend the money stocking up on books for the summer, I suggest you do the same!
